You Are Here : What was a Labradoodle doing in the Phoenix Rooms?

He’s called Doyle and he was there, with his handler Claire, to demonstrate what specially bred and trained dogs from Canine Partners can do for people who are wheelchair-bound. And this was no ordinary Labradoodle (a cross between a Labrador and a Poodle) since he’s got more than 50 Brothers, including his identical doggie brother named Domus (pictured) now living and working with a couple in Winchester, after his training and development had been generously sponsored by his other ‘Brothers’ - members of Domus Dei Lodge 5151.
Over a 3-year period members of the Lodge contributed the princely sum of £10,000 towards the cost of training Domus, aptly named after the Lodge. Following this magnificent effort, senior Lodge member W Bro Bryan Olive, brains behind the project, threw down the gauntlet to other Lodges in the Province to follow suit “It is a really worthy cause and dogs from Canine Partners provide such vital support for wheelchair- bound users, who simply cannot do the ordinary things that people who are more mobile can do for themselves” he said “and Canine Partners will readily name a dog after a sponsoring Lodge - so where is the next Lodge in Hampshire ready to take up the Charity challenge?”. Well done to members of Domus Dei Lodge and to Canine Partners.
Isabel Campbell, Director of Fundraising & Marketing at Canine Partners comments “The Domus Dei Lodge has done an amazing job in raising enough money to sponsor a puppy through it’s training to become a fully fledged assistance dog. We have many people with disabilities waiting for a Canine Partner, so the more dogs we can train the better. Obviously we need the funding to do this, so we welcome any other Lodges ready to so the same!”
